Get to know the Village of (Negeri) Oma or Leparissa Leamahu

Negeri Oma or also known as Leparissa Leamahu is a village located on the island of Haruku, Central Maluku.

On the island of Haruku itself, there are 11 villages which are divided into two, 6 villages on the North coast, and 5 villages on the South coast. Oma is located on the southern coast, in the north: bordering/adjacent to the village of Pelaw, in the east it borders/adjacent to the village of Wassu, and in the west, adjacent to the village of Haruku and the village of Sameth.

This village is a customary land, so the government structure is not as in the villages in Indonesia generally which is a "kades/kepala desa", but is led by a king who is responsible not only for the bureaucracy, but also for the customs of Negeri Oma. The king of Oma according to customs is chosen and determined by the traditional elders of a certain lineage, which is the Soapaterima clan from the family name of Pattinama.

Maluku people are famous for the Pela Gandong culture, and Negeri Oma has Gandong or (villige's sibling)  with two villages, namely Ullath - the younger sibling (on the island of Saparua), and Buano-big brother (an island in West Seram), while "Pela Tampa Sirih" to Kulur (on the island of Saparua) and Pelau (on the island of Haruku).

The belief of the local community is Christian, and apart from customs, the Church is a source of leadership and life guidance for the local community.

In addition to the unique and interesting customs, the Land of Oma has beautiful and rich nature. Fertile land, and rich ocean are the source of village's economy.

The people in Negeri Oma are generally very friendly and very open to newcomers/guests from outside the village. The daily work in general is fishing and farming / plantation.

There are several activities that should not be skipped while visiting Negeri Oma:

  1. Bathing/swimming in Aer Asol,
  2. Bathing/soaking in hot spring (there are several natural hot springs spots),
  3. Visiting the "Batu Singa" (gigantic rock with the shape of Lion),
  4. Visiting /swimming / Photographs at Sila Beach

Because it is located on a different island, this village can be reached by speed boat which is usually boarded from the village of Tulehu (Ambon Island). The cost is also relatively cheap, which is 25,000-30,000 Rupiah per person (-+ 2€), or you can rent a whole Speed-Boat Around 200,000-600,000 Rupiah (-+ 15-50 €) for one way.
